What is Lateral Flow Testing?
The Innova SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Rapid Qualitative Test uses a swab which has been in contact with the nostril of the person being tested. The swab is inserted into the extraction tube with the extraction fluid and then rotated and pressed to make sure that the sample from the swab is released into the extraction fluid (swab is then discarded at this point).
You then take the extraction tube with the nozzle cap and place 2 drops of extraction fluid into the sample well of the LFD testing device cartridge and wait for the results on the test device.
How do I get my Lateral Flow Testing Kit?
SELDOC has been issued with a limited supply of tests. In the first instance, we will be prioritising staff who have shifts in the next six weeks. Please email the Rota Team on seldoc.gprota@nhs.net to arrange a date and time to collect your kit.
When should I collect my test?
Please collect your test kit in time for you to do the test at least 12 hours before your next shift. You will be required to collect a box from either Hanover House or Tessa Jowell Health Centre. This will be enough to last for 12 weeks, at the rate of two tests per week. When you collect your box, this will need to be signed out and countersigned by Shift Manager or Operations Manager. Each box and each test have individual serial numbers which will be recorded against your name for continuity and security purposes.
Where and when should I do my test?
The test needs to be conducted twice per week, ideally on a Monday and Friday of each week, and should be completed at home. When you have completed the test and have your result, you will need to input this result into the Government website. If the result is positive, you will also be required to inform your line manager/HR as per our normal process. Please complete the test 12 hours in advance of your next shift, so that if your result is positive the Rota team can make alternative arrangements.
How do I do the test?
The test is very easy to conduct, and results can be read within 20-30 minutes. At the bottom of the page is an instructional video on how to conduct the test.
What happens after I have completed the test?
When you have completed your test - results need to be inputted onto Report a COVID-19 rapid lateral flow test result - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
This is a statutory requirement.
Are there any exclusions?
If you have had Covid-19 in the past 90 days, the lateral flow test could still show up positive, therefore current advice is not to do lateral flow testing until this period has passed.
What if I already have lateral flow testing kits from elsewhere?
If you already have lateral flow testing kits, then you will not need additional kits from SELDOC.
What if my test is negative but I have Covid symptoms?
If you have Covid symptoms then you should self-isolate as per current guidance, even if you tested negative. Please also inform your line manager/HR department.
How should I dispose of the test?
The test can be disposed of in normal household waste.
